Nationalism of The Golden Age

Nationalism in a general meaning means a concept or view to create and maintain the existence of a state sovereignty with actualizing a identity concept for the people in it. In short, nationalism means that the people in the state have an identity to protect. And it is a very important matter to bring a state to a higher rank or to be a great state. Lately, as time goes by, we can see that with globalization are all over the world including Indonesia. That means that our young generations have to always keep up with the new era. But without a proper preparation, the nationalism that our state needs will slowly fade.

Nationalism of our young generation is not as great as our parents eras—maybe over the past 20 until 40 years ago. From that we know if the gap between the eras is pretty big, but that doesn’t mean the sense of nationalism that the young generations have nowadays have to be reduced. As we can see, Indonesian people is not really prepared for the globalization, not prepared with the firmness with loving our own country. If it were in independence eras, people could easily feel the sense of nationalism as there are a war of independence, great government organization and a great structure of a state, and also the other elses. But in our early eras, beside nationalism ceremony in our school, we don’t really apply the sense of nationalism in other small things we missed and actually mattered.

 Even though it’s the era of globalization, that doesn’t mean that we have to follow all of another state’s identity or their culture as ours. For a simple example, we know that there aren’t many Indonesian goods are as good as the Western people’s. But still, that doesn’t mean Indonesia doesn’t have any great goods that are being sold. Yet people has already made up their mind that the Western’s goods are so much better than ours so they keep buying it. They didn’t think it through that if many people buy Indonesian goods, there would be a big profit and the quality would be improvised.

Another example, we know very well that the young generations in this era have to keep up with technologies and such. Technologies have to be and is a must in our sights so that we could properly keep up with the world. Yet the problem is, the moment we got deeper we are in, the more lost we are from our sense of nationalism. With us being so busy with our gagdets, we forget to see how the real world goes. Like how politics works, and even what cultures we used to had, like folk songs and dances. In this point maybe we could say that our state is in crisis of the sense in nationalism. And so we have to lessen it by protecting the nationalism very carefully.

In conclusion, we have learned that the sense of nationalism is very important to keep our state intact and the young generations need to look more through it and protect it tight so that we don’t lose our own identity as an independent state that our elders have already taken pains of. We need to respect our own state and make it always improved in the good ways. With a good sense of nationalism that our people have will bring us good advantages and the result would always come back to us.
